This CPE course defines the different types of entity and considers the identities of the entity's key stakeholders. It then looks at both financial and non-financial objectives. This course also explores the risks and financial benefits of expanding into international operations. It also investigates the effects of economic change and business variables on financial objectives, and provides equations for calculating ratios that appraise financial performance.

Objectives

  • Recognize overall strategic financial objectives (e.g. value for money, maximizing shareholder wealth, providing a surplus) of different types of entities (e.g. incorporated, unincorporated, quoted, unquoted, private sector, public sector, for-profit and not-for-profit, international operations).
  • Recognize non-financial objectives (e.g. human, intellectual, natural, and social and relationship).
  • Recognize financial objectives (e.g. earnings growth, dividend growth, gearing) and assessment of attainment for for-profit entities.
  • Recognize the sensitivity of attainment of financial objectives to changes in underlying economic (e.g. interest rates, exchange rates, inflation) and business variables (e.g. margins, volumes).
